Pharmacy Leadership Foundation

Goal

The aim of the Stichting Ondersteuning Farmaceutische Zorg, known internationally as the Pharmacy Leadership Foundation, is to promote leadership development that supports the quality and effectiveness of pharmaceutical care in Europe and beyond and improves this care for the current and future patients who need it.

One of the ways in which this goal is realised is by providing financial support to pharmacists and other care providers in the pharmaceutical care chain or the organisations for which they work to make it easier for them to pursue training and education opportunities and/or make these opportunities more accessible. Funds can also be devoted to developing and/or improving training courses.

What do we do

In order to achieve its goal, the foundation needs funding so that it can pay training institutes directly or provide money to the care providers who are to participate in training and/or the organisations for which they work. The foundation raises (sponsorship) funds from companies and agencies that provide products and/or services to healthcare institutions and also endeavours to raise money from special interest organisations, industry associations and professional organisations, (individual) care providers and other parties interested in supporting pharmaceutical care in Europe and beyond. A condition for the foundation’s contribution of funds is that the money paid out must be spent on training in the broadest sense.

Organisation

The foundation’s board is made up of at least 3 but no more than 5 officers, each of whom has a long track record in developing and supporting the pharmaceutical field and/or contributes specific financial or legal knowledge. The board is responsible for raising and spending the funds and will report on this annually to interested parties. These accounts will be reviewed by an independent auditor.

The foundation’s assessment committee is made up of at least 3 arbitrary members of the foundation’s board or other specialists in the pharmaceutical field who have been requested to serve on this committee.

The foundation has an advisory board which advises the board on its policy and the implementation of that policy. Members of the advisory board may be board members or representatives from national and international scientific associations and other special interest organisations engaged in the development of this field. The advisory board consists of at least 3 people.

Integrity

The foundation’s starting point is that at least 90% of the funds raised must be spent on participation in and/or development of relevant training courses and that a maximum of 10% will be used to cover organisational costs and the like. Board and committee members will only be entitled to reimbursement of expenses.

How does it work

Care professionals looking for support can contact the organisation and their applications for support will be reviewed for eligibility by the assessment committee. Candidates can also be nominated; the same review will be performed with regard to these candidates before any funds are contributed. Not only the candidate, but the training course to be followed is also reviewed by the assessment committee.
